TRIANTAFYLLOS CHAVAKIS (University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, Technische Universität, Dresden)

Dr. Chavakis' expertise is in immunology and vascular biology with emphasis on inflammatory processes regulating leukocyte recruitment and endothelial homeostasis in the context of metabolism. His work utilises extensively mouse models of disease and genetically modified mice in experimental medicine.

EMMANOUIL (MANOLIS) DERMITZAKIS (University of Geneva Medical School, Switzerland)

Dr. Dermitzakis' interests focus on genome-wide analysis of gene expression variation and cellular phenotypes and association with nucleotide variation with a focus on disease susceptibility. His group participated in the ENCODE and HapMap projects, and is now part of the 1000 Genomes project.

ARGYRIOS THEOFILOPOULOS (The Scripps Research Institute, USA)

Dr. Theofilopoulos' research career centers on defining the molecular and genetic basis of autoimmune diseases, particularly systemic autoimmunity.His current work focuses on the definition of the pathogenic role of Toll-like receptors and of the pleiotropic type 1 and type 2 inferferons.

VASILIS NTZIACHRISTOS (Technical University of Munich, Germany)

Dr. Ntziachristos' research encompasses the development of new methods and devices for biological and medical imaging, focusing on innovative non-invasive visualization approaches. His research aims to translate these methods to biological dis-covery, accelerate drug development and offer new efficient methods for diagnostics and theranostics.

JOHN D. LAMBRIS (University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, USA)


Using complement as a model system Dr. Lambris applies ideas and methods embodied in engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, biomedicine, and other fields to study the structure and functions of the complement system. 



Dr. Economides is a co-inventor of the Cytokine Trap and VelociGene® technologies. More recently, he has been spearheading the development of new methods for the generation of transgenic mice using BAC as transgene vectors, and has also pioneered a new method for generating conditional alleles.

​MANOLIS PASPARAKIS (Institute for Genetics, University of Cologne, Germany)

Dr. Pasparakis' group focuses on studying the role of inflammation in disease pathogenesis. His research aims to understand the function of NF-kB and MAP kinase pathways in inflammatory diseases. For these studies, the mouse is selected as the primary experimental system where targeted modifications can be performed with nucleotide precision.

ACHILLEAS FRANGAKIS (Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany)

Dr. Frangakis' group focuses to reveal the macromolecular organisation of living cells by means of cryo-electron tomography. The group works with a wide spectrum of specimens, including prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, but also model systems.
