Since 2021, every two years, our MSc programme co-organises the ICI-CIVIS Summer School in Immuno-Oncology, hosted by the Institut Cancer et Immunologie in Marseille. Bringing together approximately 40 Master's and PhD students alongside renowned researchers from around the world, the programme offers an intensive educational experience in the rapidly evolving field of immuno-oncology. CIVIS support the students' physical mobility to attend the school through international scholarships. The ICI-CIVIS Summer School in Immuno-Oncology:

● The ICI-CIVIS Summer School in Immuno-Oncology:

  • Combines online teaching with an intensive in-person programme in Marseille

  • Is conducted entirely in English

  • Offers theoretical and technical courses, tutorials and state-of-the-art seminars delivered by the local professors

  • Provides hands-on practical workshops in small groups, hosted by research institutes affiliated with Aix-Marseille Université, where students gain experience in experimental techniques and data analysis

  • Welcomes renowned lecturers from Europe and around the world. In 2025, the programme featured 23 international speakers, including 3 keynote lecturers, 10 AMU professors and 5 CIVIS visiting professors

  • Includes poster sessions, where students present their research projects, with prizes awarded for outstanding presentations

  • Features a team-based scientific challenge, during which students develop and present a research project conceived during the online component of the program and throughout the mobility's week in Marseille, under the guidance of the guest international lecturers

  • Provides 6 European Credits (ECTS)

Previous Editions

  • 2021 — Single-cell approaches to tumor and immune cell heterogeneity: the inaugural ICI Summer School focused on single-cell sequencing, mass, flow and spectral cytometry, spatially resolved single-cell analysis, high-definition imaging and clinical applications. Students also took part in hands-on workshops analysing single-cell RNA-seq data.

  • 2023 — Organoid models in immuno-oncology: the second edition explored tumour, immune and neuronal organoids, 3D cell-culture models, organoid modelling of the tumour microenvironment, high-resolution 3D imaging, multi-omics and biomechanical approaches, with practical workshops on Marseille's scientific platforms.

  • 2025 — Immuno-oncology in the era of spatial omics: the third edition focused on spatial transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolism, genomic imaging and cytometry, as well as computational and statistical approaches. It combined theoretical teaching, practical laboratory workshops and mini research projects. The CIVIS programme involved 23 international speakers, including keynote lecturers, AMU professors and CIVIS visiting professors.

  • 2027 — Immunotherapy for Cancer

Learning Outcomes

Our students learn from leading researchers, discover advanced technologies and benefit from direct interaction with fellow students and scientists from across Europe and beyond. The partnership therefore offers a sustained framework for advanced education, international cooperation and scientific exchange.

For our Students of the MSc Molecular Biomedicine

4 to 6 students usually attend the School. By participating in this collaboration, our students gain first-hand experience of the international and collaborative nature of modern biomedical research, while developing valuable scientific connections within the European research community. Every year, several of them are awarded Prizes (see NEWS & EVENTS section).
