Our MSc Student at University of Madrid (CIVIS)

Eirini GIANNOUSI (MSc Class 2021-2023, 2nd year, Dr. Panagiota Kafasla Lab, BSRC "Alexander Flerming") has been selected among the top European MSc and PhD Students to attend the Blended Intensive Program (BIP) CIVIS course "Experimental Models in Molecular Biomedicine (EMMB)" organized by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid between 30 January to 7 July 2023.

She was also awarded an international scholarship funded through the CIVIS fund and provided to outstanding graduate students to attend the international CIVIS program. Congratulations!

Our MSc Professor Dr. Maria TSOUMAKIDOU (BSRC "Alexander Fleming) came to Madrid as well to supervise the students for their project presentations, which followed the CIVIS-BIP Lectures & Research Workshops she organized earlier in May 2023 (virtual part).

This CIVIS-BIP is co-organized by our International MSc in Molecular Biomedicine (Medical School - National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and BSRC "Alexander Fleming") in collaboration with the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Prof. Carmela CALES).

CIVIS-BIP "Experimental Models in Molecular Biomedicine (EMMB)" Program: 

  • Research workshops (online): January to June 2023

    • Yeast as a biotechnological tool with multiple applications: a model for dietary toxicology

    • Non-coding RNAs and RNA modifications in cell differentiation and disease

    • Behavioral phenotyping of Mouse Models

    • Single-Cell Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to study Hematopoietic Stem Cell Aging

    • In Vivo and Ex Vivo Cancer Immunity Models

    • Human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells differentiation for tissue engineering applications

    • Models to study Angiogenesis

    • Novel approaches to study Human Diseases

  • Madrid program (mobility): 3 to 7 July 2023

    • Written and oral individual presentation (for individual evaluation)

    • General discussions on each of the models 

    • Personal feedback from scientists

    • Visits to companies and university facilities 

    • Closing ceremony including keynote speeches from young and veteran researchers and diplomas delivery

    • City tours and local cultural activities will make the mobility experience the most enriching for all international participants
